Asics Kayano 18 Shoes Review
We reveal our verdict on the Asics Kayano 18 Shoes.
Asics kayano 18 shoes
The Kayano has been the flagship structured cushioning shoe in the Asics range for over a decade. Small improvements in that time have ensured runners who fell in love with the first 17 versions will still love this one. On this version, all elements have been overhauled to drop weight, comfort has been increased with a revised midsole which uses a fresh blend of Asics’ proprietary foams, and offset lacing which helps the upper fit. Stability has been increased with a plastic exoskeleton heel cup. Old Asics features return like PHF self-customising foam heel surround, and full-length Gel inserts in the midsoles.
Enough tech talk, do they run well? Fear not, over-pronating mile-seekers, the Kayano 18 will make you happy, very happy. While we’re mild overpronators, we do like a controlled ride and we got that in buckets. The firmer DuoMax medial support is effective, but never overpowers the ride. The shoe moves through the strike phases cleanly, feeling wonderfully joined up and leaving you with the feeling of clean pacing, something not every structured shoe can manage. This shoe is close to perfection and definitely should be on your shortlist. The only downer is the price, which has crept up by £10 in the past 12 months.
Smooth, even transition, great balance between soft cushioning and pace delivery.
