That was the question that was asked as bottles of Erdinger Alkoholfrei were handed around the local triathlon club; ‘does it taste like the real thing?’
There was some apprehension as the tasting began. After all, as one of the team asked, ‘what’s the point of enjoying a beer without the alcohol?’
Erdinger claim that this drink tastes fantastic and that it is healthy – thanks to the vitamins B12 and folic acid, as well as the polyphenols it contains. With its isotonic properties , it is said to provide the body with valuable ingredients that satisfies thirst and as an added bonus it is low in calories, with just 125 kcal per 0.5-litre bottle, and made exclusively from natural ingredients.
Erdinger have athletes in mind with this drink. It has a unique nutritional blend that claims to promote both physical and mental performance.
‘We’ll be the judge of that,’ came the response from a group of club triathletes who had finished their long Sunday ride and were looking forward to a beverage. There was a healthy skepticism and some eye rolling as many of the team had already decided that this couldn’t taste as good as ‘the real thing’.
There was silence as they took the first swig and looking at each other, they quickly acknowledged ‘that’s actually alright isn’t it?’ Praise indeed! Sitting on the grass, surrounded by bikes and bottles in hand, there was a shift in energy as the group chatted and enjoyed every last drop of each bottle. ‘We’ll need to test another bottle or four, you know, just to double check,’ was the parting statement.
