It can be a struggle to find bras that offer comfort and support across three disciplines. We tested six sports bras in search of the perfect combination for bigger busts.
1. ANITA ACTIVE DYNAMIX STAR
The Power-X back (racer style back) lives up to claims of providing more stability and less bounce on the run. Shoulder straps are adjustable from the front so can be adjusted on the go. Gently moulded cups give great shape, a hydrophilic cloth lining provides comfort while effective ventilation comes via a cooling mesh separation panel. The only downside was trapezius muscles were aching towards the end of a three hour bike ride. A great short/medium distance bra.
Sizes: 32A – 40E
2. FREYA ACTIVE
This underwire bra gives a great, flattering shape thanks to a protective layer inside the bra, but it’s generously sized so try before you buy as you might need to downsize. For a structured underwire bra it’s surprisingly comfortable on the swim and bike, although there is a racerback clip which can make it over tight. The bounce control on the run is a fraction behind some of the other bras tested, but this is a great, comfortable, supportive bra for long distance triathlons.
Sizes: 28D – 40G
3. ICEBREAKER SPRITE
If you’re looking for a super-soft crop top for the swim and bike then this bra is hard to beat. The merino wool content makes it cosy and the crop top design is easy to pull on and off, even when wet. The fabric is breathable and odour resistant. However, it rides up easily and just a standing jump revealed a lack of bust support, meaning it is not ideal for bigger busted runners. This is strictly for smaller cup sizes who are seeking more comfort and light weight control.
Sizes: XS – XL
from £46 lessbounce.com
This is the only bra retailer Less Bounce recommends for triathlon. Designed for the fuller bust, support comes from the sides rather than the shoulders and rib cage. At first glance, this crop top design looks too flimsy to be effective but it offers spectacular bounce control. It feels comfy in the pool with no restriction on shoulder movement and dries exceptionally quickly. The straps did give achey shoulders on a three hour bike ride, but for shorter races this bra is hard to beat.

5. BOUNCE-B-GONE THE NORTH FACE
Made from stretch elastane compression, which claims to offer maximum support, it also features a wide elastic hem which means the bra stays put. Lightweight fabric helps regulate body temperature and it’s easy to pull on and off over the head. Exceptionally comfy on the swim and bike, however on the run it didn’t keep bigger boobs in check. Smaller sizes may love this but big sizes may require more support.
Sizes: XS – XL
6. SHOCK ABSORBER ULTIMATE RUN BRA
Shock Absorber’s award-winning ‘infinity-8 support’ system (to counteract the figure of eight movement made by boobs) reduces bounce impressively. With moisture-wicking, breathable, fabric the bra is soft and seamless. However, the high rear sports back clip is tricky to fasten and undo. The bra is comfy on the swim and offers unrivalled support while running, but the straps did cause aching shoulders on the bike.
Sizes: 30A – 38F
