The new LunarGlide 4 is the best shoe to come from Nike’s Lunar line to date. The seamless, welded upper is closer fitting and even more sumptuously upholstered in the heel than previous models and the midsole has been tweaked to be more neutral than version 3. However, runners with weak ankles will need something with more definite medial density than the Dynamic Support offered here.

Flexibility has also been improved in the LunarGlide 4 to give them a more ‘joined-up’ feel through the footstrike phase, and it makes them fun to run in. The heel has a tougher, harder-wearing contact rubber while the forefoot gets the latest iteration of the classic Nike waffle in faster-wearing Lunarlon.

They’re light enough to allow you to run quickly, but being so deep and soft makes it harder to get on your toes for faster efforts. On long runs, where tired feet and legs need care, they’re like a hospital bed – a good place to rest and recover. Best of all, though, is that you can get them with H2O Repel waterproof uppers, which are also reflective to aid safe night running. Dry, comfy feet for your winter pavement sessions; what more could a runner want? They’re not ideal as the only shoe in your arsenal, but we found them hard to dislike.

Verdict
Supreme cushioning, comfort and safety for dark, wet runs.

Performance 4/5
Value 3/5
Overall 4/5
