IMG Worldwide, the global sports, fashion and media company, announced today that 2012 Ironman Champions Pete Jacobs and Leanda Cave will compete in the 2013 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, on Sunday, March 3. Jacobs and Cave will lead a field of nearly 40 top pros set to race in this iconic San Francisco triathlon including 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist Javier Gomez (Spain), 2012 Olympian Sara Groff (United States of America), 2008 Olympian Ricarda Lisk (Germany), five-time Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion Andy Potts (United States of America), 2008 Olympian Matt Reed (United States of America) and more.
“Having the current Ironman Champions both competing this year is sure to intensify the level of competition among the pro field,” said IMG Senior Vice President James Leitz. “This is an extremely impressive list of athletes, which will create some serious excitement at this year’s race.”
The world’s top athletes and more than 2,000 racers from around the globe will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for this prestigious triathlon. The famous racecourse features a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shore, an 18-mile bike race and an 8-mile run through San Francisco. Water temperatures and weather averages will be slightly cooler in March (water – low 50s and air – high 50s), compared to June (water – mid 50s and air low 60s).
