The second year of the official Brighton & Hove Triathlon has opened it entries to participants aged 13 and up.
The inclusion of TriStar (under 15) and Youth (15-16) waves hopes to encourage participation of triathlon from a young age.
Entrants aged 13 and 14 years old will be eligible to compete in the Supersprint distance, combining a 400m sea swim with a 5km flat closed road bike and concluding with a 2.5km run. Those aged 15-17 years old can enter the Super Sprint distance, as well as the longer Sprint distance which comprises of a 750m sea swim, followed by a 20km bike ride and 5km run. The closed-road format provides an excellent opportunity to give triathlon a go in a very safe environment.
Race Director, John Lunt says “I’m very excited to open our doors to younger competitors. Triathlon teaches discipline, requires multiple skills and encourages determination. But most importantly, it’s an extremely fun way to keep youngsters healthy and active.”
For those younger triathletes a children’s scootathlon will be running on Saturday 16th September for 4-8 year olds, offering an insight into multisport racing. The free to attend Sport and Fitness Show will also be host to a multitude of free sporting ‘Have a Go’ activities for all the family.
