City Workers Launch 5K Sporting Charity Challenge
Markel Insurance make a splash launching new triathlon challenge.
Dressed in their best business suits these city workers not only raced one another on foot and on bike around the beautiful grounds of Hever Castle in Kent last week, but they also plunged into its freezing moat. This out-of-season training session and unusual sporting attire marked the launch the Markel Insurance Challenge – a competition with a business twist.
Markel, a leading specialist insurer with offices worldwide, is inviting the insurance industry, as well as the wider business community, to enter its triathlon team challenge on Sunday 30 September at Hever Castle. The aim is to encourage industry members to work together, have fun and, above all, raise money for charity.
Sean Martin, Marketing Director, Markel International, said: “I hope the water will have warmed up by September! We are really excited to sponsor the Markel Castle Triathlon Series and to be hosting our own challenge at this year’s Hever event. Hever Castle is a superb setting for a triathlon and we’d like to encourage as many people as possible to take part. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned triathlete, there’s no better place to show your Olympic spirit.”
Each relay team will be made up of three members, one for each stage of the triathlon – swim, cycle and run. Teams will compete over the Olympic race distance of 1500m, 40km and 10km respectively.
Each member of the winning team will receive the latest iPad as well as a team trophy. Best of all, Markel will donate £5k to a registered UK charity nominated by the winners. All teams will be encouraged to set up Just Giving sponsorship pages so that the Challenge will raise as much money as possible for a wide range of charities.
