Entries are open for mass-participation one mile swim
Swim Serpentine, the open water swimming festival held for the first time this year, will return to Hyde Park on Saturday 16 September 2017.
Created and organised by London Marathon Events, the 2017 event will again be staged in and around the beautiful Serpentine lake in Hyde Park, the venue for the open water swimming competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The 2017 festival will include a range of distances for swimmers including the hugely popular mass-participation one mile, which attracted 4,000 entries in 2016. Entries for the one mile event are open now.
Hugh Brasher, Event Director, said: “We are delighted to announce that the second Swim Serpentine will take place in Hyde Park on 16 September 2017 and we would like to thank The Royal Parks for making this possible.
“This is a truly inspirational event which saw swimmers of all ages and abilities enjoy the unique opportunity to swim in the beautiful setting of the Serpentine. The feedback from participants this year was incredible and it is clear that Swim Serpentine truly raised the bar for open water swimming events and inspired thousands to try open water swimming.
“The one mile swim is a fantastic challenge to set yourself for 2017 and a great way to fundraise for your favourite charity too.
“In addition to the one mile swim, we are planning to add shorter and longer distances including a ½ mile and a 2 mile swim to the programme in 2017 and to develop the free family festival around the lake. It will be one of London’s great days out in 2017.”
Up to 6,000 swimmers will be accepted for the one-mile mass-participation event. Every swimmer will be able to choose a specific start wave which go off at regular intervals during the day. All swimmers in the mass-participation mile must wear either a wetsuit or use a tow-float. Both wetsuit and tow-float hire will be available beforehand and at the Serpentine on the day.
Entry to the one-mile mass participation swim is £39.00 for UK and overseas swimmers. Entry details are available here.
