Volagi Presents New Viaje – Interbike 2012
Volagi are offering a new steel bike, the Viaje, as well as updating their Liscio disc brake-equipped road bike.
We saw the Viaje XL at Interbike (the Viaje SL, made with Columbus SL tubing, wasn’t yet ready). The Viaje is pitched as a versatile frameset that can be built up in several ways: a fast commuting machine, a gravel racer or even a cyclocross bike.
The XL is made from 4130 heat-treated, double-butted steel, can run standard caliper brakes or discs (the fork has a bolt-on hose guide), and comes in an impressive six sizes (50-63cm). With 42mm of tyre clearance there’s plenty of room for fat tyres and fenders.
Volagi are selling the XL as a frameset only (MSRP US$995 to US$1,295) or as a complete build for between US$2,195 (SRAM Apex) and US$3,195 (Ultegra with TRP Parabox hydraulic disc brakes). It’s scheduled to be available in November, but if you want the SL version Volagi told us there’ll be a much longer wait.
The company’s first bike, the carbon framed Liscio, which we reviewed last year, receives several upgrades for the new year. The Liscio 2 now uses the 135mm hub standard for disc brakes, comes in six sizes (47-60cm) and includes full internal brake housing and Teflon cables. Pricing is set at US$2,295 for the frame module and between US$3,195 and US$6,295 for full builds.
