Win A Spot At The Abu Dhabi International Triathlon
Organisers Urge Athletes To Share Motivational Stories For A Chance To Win Trip To UAE Capital Event.
Organisers of the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon are urging aspiring athletes with motivational stories to share their experiences for a chance to win a paid trip* to the United Arab Emirates’ capital to compete in the flagship event this March 2nd.
Whether it’s making an exceptional contribution through sport or in other facets of their life, to their community, a charity or cause; providing selfless assistance to others; or personally overcoming great adversity to compete, organisers want to hear their stories to help inspire others.
Up to ten holiday packages are available to worthy individuals winners. The prize includes return flights to Abu Dhabi with the UAE’s award-winning national airline, Etihad Airways, plus four night’s accommodation at the five-star Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana, as well as free entry into the event. Winners will experience one of the world’s finest triathlons and be treated to the emirate’s famed Arabian hospitality on a hosted excursion.
“Sport has always been a powerful tool in overcoming adversity and pushing the limits of mind, body and soul. Over the last three years, we have been continuously inspired by amazing stories of bravery, determination and kindness from athletes who have taken part in Abu Dhabi. We want to officially recognise the sport’s true heroes this year, and hopefully motivate others to embrace positive change,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Events Manager, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), which is behind the event.

Now in its fourth year, Abu Dhabi is looking to attract more than 2,200 athletes from across the globe to compete, including many of the world’s top elites.
Nominees have the choice of participating in any of the three distances available including; the 223km ‘long course’ (3km swim, a 200km cycle and 20km run), the half-length ‘short’ course (1.5km swim, a 100km cycle and a 10 km run) and the sprint course (750m swim, a 50km bike and 5km run). Both the ‘short’ and the ‘sprint’ can be run as a team relay.
Dubbed an ‘Instant Classic’ after its 2010 debut, the event has continued to attract the world’s best for a shot at one of the sport’s richest prizes. Highlights from past years have seen World Champions Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack and Craig ‘Crowie’ Alexander battle it out in the desert sun, legend Julie Dibens claim back-to-back titles and Rasmus Henning snatch the title in the closing metres from home favourite Faris Al Sultan.
The year, organisers are promising the strongest elite field to date. Leading the charge is TEAM GB’s gold medal winning Olympic triathlete and back-to-back European Triathlon Union champion, Alistair Brownlee, who is looking to expand his competitive horizons.
The 2013 Abu Dhabi International Triathlon will start with a sunrise swim in the Arabian Gulf’s shimmering turquoise waters off Abu Dhabi’s Blue Flagged public beach, before weaving through closed roads along the Corniche Beach, up to the spectacular Yas Island and around the Yas Marina Circuit – home to the annual Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – before returning to the heart of the UAE capital.
Winners will need to be available to travel to the UAE between February 27th – March 4th and have the relevant visas and travel documents. All entries need to be submitted by 27 January 2012 (midnight UK time) and the winner will be announced on January 11th. The lucky winners must be willing to tell and share their inspirational story with the triathlon community. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges from the event management team, their decisions are final.
