We take the Bianchi via Nirone 7 Dama out for our four ride bike review
This entry-level women’s ride is rich with beautiful features, as you’d expect from a brand with Bianchi’s 125-year heritage: custom branded wheels, white and celeste striped cable covers, and impeccably smooth welds on the hydroformed aluminium frame. The ride immediately feels ‘classic’ too – there are no drag-defying aero touches or weight-saving widgets here, just solid, smooth and steady pedalling.
Behind the refined looks there is racing pedigree, though as part of Bianchi’s C2C range this is a frame designed for the long haul rather than leaps forward. The chunky seat stays and boxy squared-off down tube give a suggestion of solidity that you can feel when you put the power down. It’s not as rattley as we expected on rougher stuff, but on the downside it does feel somewhat reluctant to hold on to high speeds.
With its Tiagra gearing, sturdy frame and heavy wheels the Nirone 7 Dama was never going to be sprightly on inclines, but the compact geometry is climb-friendly if you have the patience to sit down and spin. Compact gearing helps here, too. Coming down, smaller-handed ladies might want a shorter reach for security but the bike is stable and predictable enough to reassure those more nervous on descents.
The shape, C2C (coast to coast) branding and feel of this bike tell you it’s designed for long riding and on the road it doesn’t disappoint. Being an aluminium frame it’s not quite as smooth as carbon but this certainly isn’t a harsh ride. The elegantly curved top tube and tall head tube give it a compact, sit-up shape and the supplied San Marco SPID, female-specific saddle stayed comfy for a good few hours too.
