Wiggle has partnered with record-breaking cycling star Mark Beaumont as he attempts to slash his own record for circumnavigating the globe (set in 2008) from 194 days to just 80 days.
This phenomenal feat of ultra-endurance will entail Beaumont travelling a total of 18,000 miles at a rate of 240 miles per day with a marathon 16 hours a day in the saddle. To succeed in his record attempt, Beaumont will also need to be fuelled with over 8,000 calories of quality nutrition every day, all supplied by Wiggle over the duration of the challenge. In addition, Wiggle has supplied Beaumont (and his challenge team) with a number of cycling and expedition essentials that have been hand picked by Beaumont from Wiggle’s outdoor equipment ranges. This includes duffel bags, sleeping gear and other essential equipment needed for this epic challenge.
Beaumont will be starting his record attempt from Paris on Sunday 2 July. Prior to this he will cycle around the coastline of Britain as a training ride. This departs on 4th April, and the 3,500 mile, 15-day ride will be completed at his ’80 days’ world record-attempt pace.
“This is the culmination of the past two decades, since I was a 12-year-old boy cycling across Scotland,” says Beaumont. “I would love for this journey to give people the confidence to take on what they are capable, for young people in particular to stop and to think ‘what’s my 80 days’?”
According to Jo Taylor, Head of Brand at Wiggle, ”We are delighted to be working with Mark on his exciting, ultra-endurance record attempt and kitting him and his team out. We want everyone attempting their own 80 day challenges to know that Wiggle is here with all the ‘good stuff’ they’ll need to complete those challenges, whether it’s cycle gear, nutrition products, running, swimming or outdoor kit.”
