The 225 is the lighter, racier option in Inov-8’s tri-specific running shoe pairing. A neutral shoe with a 6mm footbed and 3mm heel to toe drop, the Tri-X-treme 225 feels naturally fast from the first stride.
The low-to-the-ground design and the lack of a chunky heel promotes a more mid/forefoot landing and fast leg turnover. Road feel – aided by the superb grip – gives loads of feedback, though there’s not a lot of support on offer and the slim EVA midsole doesn’t equal the best cushioning.
The heel cup does add security, but this is certainly a shoe for competent, fast road runners. Breathability is excellent and the tri-specific features – elastic laces, heel loops and drainage – mean it’s quick through transition too.
