This tyre and wheel combo from Mavic isn’t cheap, but the K10s are light, tough and have an impressive feel.
Mavic have been making rims since 1935 and complete wheels since 1994, but the K10s are their first tyre and wheel combo. They’re more about aesthetics than extra performance. More machining on hubs and rims means they’re a few grams lighter than the £710 Ksyrium SL at 666g front and 899g rear for the wheels alone.
The K10s have got a sharp feel on the road. Ksyriums are impressively tough, although a lag in hub pick-up makes acceleration choppy at times. The tyres feel reassuringly surefooted yet rapid in all weather conditions. But given the £189 price increase over the SLs for two £45 tyres and a couple of innertubes, we can’t help feeling the price is excessive.
Light, tough and sharp wheelset, but a touch pricey thanks to aesthetic add-ons.
