Top triathletes are backing a new campaign, The Food Champions, which shares the eating habits and refuelling secrets of athletes with fitness enthusiasts and people who play sport at all levels.
40 healthy, delicious, nutritionally balanced and easy to prepare recipes have been developed as part of The Food Champions campaign, devised by The National Lottery and nutritionists from the English Institute of Sport.
The recipes focus on eight sports and are designed to deliver the necessary ‘nutritional outcomes’ that food needs to provide to help athletes improve performance in those sports.
The recipes are being named after top athletes to honour their dedication to their sport. 1,300 National Lottery funded athletes across the UK benefit from expert advice from the English Institute of Sport.
For triathlon, the recipes are:
- Banana Loaf by The Brownlee Brothers, named after triathletes Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee, which can help recover in-between sessions.
- Helen’s Must Tri Tuna Nicoise Salad, named after triathlete Helen Jenkins, which can boost recovery in-between sessions.
- Holland’s Heavenly Honey and Chicken Feast, named after triathlete Vicky Holland, which can improve endurance.
- The Stanford Smoked Salmon, Asparagus and Herb Omelette, named after triathlete Non Stanford, which can build functional strength.
Non Stanford says expert eating advice can give triathletes a competitive advantage:
