Our verdict on the latest On Cloudrunner trainers
On have updated the Cloudrunner this year to increase the size of the heel ‘Clouds’ – the small rubber tubes on the outsole that give suspension on foot strike – and reduce their size on the forefoot. The shoe also features a new ‘Speedboard’ – a plastic lattice built into the sole that’s designed to transfer energy throughout the foot cycle and support your natural gait.
The result is a refinement that most benefits heel strikers, taking sting out of impact, then rolling through without collapse and finally gearing up for a powerful push-off. For mid to forefoot running, however, the Cloudrunner feels a little harsher than before. The upper is comfortable and supportive even over long runs, where the shoe comes into its own, reducing foot punishment.
