Powerbar Energize Wafer ReviewPowerBar Energize Wafer

£18/12 wafers

These new wafers from PowerBar offer a crunchy alternative to chewy energy bars. There are 28g carbs (14.4g sugar) in each bar, utilising PowerBar’s C2Max glucose/fructose energy source mix.

Though there are 10g less carbs per 40g wafer than the company’s 55g Energize bars, three per hour will pretty much sort the recommended 90g carbs per hour as well as providing almost 500 calories.

They’re easy to eat with minimum clagginess – provided you’ve got water to wash down their dryness – and their low weight means your pockets won’t get loaded down. All this is great for longer distances.

The fruitiness of the Berry Yoghurt flavour seemed easier to stomach, but both this and the Chocolate Peanut variation are palatable sources of training fuel.
