We put Santini’s SP 1072 GIT GARA bib shorts through their paces
Tri suits are all well and good for race day but in training it pays to pamper your privates with a decent pair of bib shorts. Proper padding means you can ride longer and more regularly without discomfort – and that’s exactly what these Santini shorts provide. At the heart of the snappily-named SP 1072 GIT GARA bibs is the company’s Gel Intech chamois – a contoured dual-layer foam pad with a silicone gel insert. It sounds cushy and it is, despite being impressively slim. The shorts themselves are made from Lycra Power fabric – a compressive polyamide/elastane mix that hugs the body well. Silicone grippers stop the legs riding up and the contrast stitching looks the part and is flatlocked to avoid chafing. As is typical with Italian gear, sizing is on the small side. There are eight sizes to choose from; we’d recommend picking based on height rather than waistline, as the fabric will stretch/contract to fit. The legs and shoulder straps on our size large sample were on the short side for testers over 6ft.
