We review Schwalbe’s official Ironman triathlon bike tyres
Schwalbe Ironman triathlon tyres
£44.99 clincher, £59.99 tubeless, £69.99 tubular
The ‘Official tyre of Ironman’ (Schwalbe has licensed the name from the WTC) is 22mm wide, rather than the standard 23mm. The company says that wind tunnel testing has shown this to be the perfect aero wheel width, and claims it could save around 10 watts at 40kmh, equating to three minutes over an Ironman bike leg. With new triple-compound rubber and highly cut-resistant V-Guard fibres, the tyre offers low rolling resistance and decent puncture protection, despite its light weight. We tested the 173g clincher version and were impressed by its speed and durability, but based on previous experience, the 295g (claimed) tubeless tyre should roll even faster and offer more security. There’s a 260g tubular option, too.
