When 10 October 2010
Duathlons are a key part of your off-season routine and ensure that your competitive instincts don’t fall away over the autumn and winter months. So why not sign up for the inaugural Chilham Castle Duathlon, which takes place at the stunning castle in Chilham Park, near Canterbury, Kent on Sunday, 10 October.
There has been a castle on the site for 13 centuries and the current house was built in 1616, so your race is steeped in history The race is organised by Tri Spirit Events and will begin with a 10km off-road run held within the picturesque grounds of Chilham Castle – taking in views of the castle and Canterbury Cathedral. This will be followed by a very fast 40km cycle route, partly on a bike time trial route, then finishing with a 5km run in the park.
Tri Spirit Events is a new events management company based in Kent, which offers a wide range of sporting events for multisport athletes. The firm has been given an early vote of confidence by securing nutrition company PowerBar as a key sponsor for the Chilham Castle Duathlon.
This race is currently the only duathlon that PowerBar sponsors in the whole of the UK. Race director Liz King says: “We are really excited about bringing a new multisport event to Kent. We really want to encourage people into multisport events and thought a duathlon would be the right type of event to start with, as often people are put off by the swim section of a triathlon.”
Facilities available for competitors will be male and female changing areas, hot and cold refreshments, chip timing, goody bags, finisher’s T-shirt, medal and prizes. Free parking will be available for all competitors and spectators within the grounds of Chilham Park. Teams of two are also welcome to enter.
