Not even a stumble could stop Brownlee from taking his 18th title in the World Triathlon Series…
Although plenty of attention was being directed at the London Marathon on Sunday, there was also something equally impressive happening in Cape Town with the World Triathlon Series.
Alistair Brownlee was the star of the show, with an excellent win in his first event for seven months due to injury. Even a stumble when running – due to a collision with Javier Gomez – couldn’t stop him blitzing to the finish line first.
This video from the BBC shows the fall and the impressive recovery.
Brownlee managed a comfortable win, finding new strength in the last 1.5km and creating a huge gap between him and Gomez. His winning time was 1 hour 39 minutes and 18 seconds.
Speaking with the BBC, Alistair said: “I probably wouldn’t have won that today if Jonny was there, so at least I’ve got one back. I should only get fitter from here, so give me three weeks and hopefully I’ll be another notch up and will be competitive in Yokahoma.”
