This weekend Challenge Ixtapa-Zihuatanjeo will welcome professional athletes, age groupers and children to compete over a variety of distances and events.
Hosted in the port of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, in the Mexican Pacific, this will be the second Challenge event of the season in Mexico.
Challenge Ixtapa will host four simultaneous events: Junior Challenge for children from 8-16 years old, the sprint distance, the Olympic triathlon, and the main event over the half distance.
A field of 20 professional triathletes from all over the world will compete to earn the inaugural title and a share of the €25,000 purse.
The event will start at 7am with the 1.9km swim off Playa el Palmar.
This is followed by the 90km bike course where the athletes will ride to the village of Zihuatanejo and the highway to Lazaro Cardenas before returning to Ixtapa.
With an elevation gain of 1,600m the competitors will test their legs on this course. The half marathon run will be held in the heart of Ixtapa cheered on by the spectators.
