Club Championship prize will be awarded at the Windsor Triathlon
The Windsor Triathlon on Sunday 12 June will introduce a brand new Club Championship alongside the traditional age group prizes, with triathlon clubs from around the UK expected to battle it out for the title. Every club member who completes the Olympic distance (1.5km Thames swim, 42km bike, 10km run) could make the difference, but will need to be registered by Tuesday 31st May.
Clubs are the heart of the triathlon community, helping to keep the sport growing and improve the performances of thousands of athletes. To make the competition as fair as possible, the fastest three members from each club will have their finish times averaged, giving the club an overall time. The clubs will be ranked by these times, with the fastest being awarded the title. Separate trophies will be up for grabs in both the male and female categories.
Last year over 50 clubs were represented at the Windsor Triathlon, so competition is expected to be fierce on the course this June. On average Viceroys Tri Club were the fastest in 2015, with their motto of ‘never show weakness’ pushing them on to an average Olympic distance time of 2 hours 38 minutes and 22 seconds. They were closely followed by Ful-On-Tri and B2P Tri Club.
The introduction of the Club Championship is the latest announced addition for the Windsor Triathlon in 2016. Other new features include waves with on-the-day racking for those who cannot attend on the Saturday, a commemorative medal designed by triathlete and artist Vanessa Raw, plus the return of Race with the Stars waves for those who can finish in under 2 hours 30 minutes.
The trophies for the new club competition are to be named after Jasmine Flatters MBE. Jasmine has been involved with organisers Human Race Events since the very beginning, and she continues to contribute to the Windsor Triathlon every year. In 2014, after around 30 years of volunteering in various guises, Jasmine was awarded an MBE for her services to triathlon. She has also held roles on both the BTA and ETU boards.
Limited places are still available in the 26th Windsor Triathlon on Sunday 12th June 2016. To secure a place visit the website before 31st May.
