Competitors, communities and local businesses are set to join in an IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire finale at Shugborough next summer – as the event’s finishing line moves to a new home in 2018.

The good news is that there is still time to book your place in history and experience racing at the stunning setting of Shugborough for the last time. Since its inauguration in 2015, IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire has quickly become a firm favourite and fastest selling event on the IRONMAN UK calendar.

This year the event will see over 2,000 competitors complete a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile half marathon, starting at Chasewater, passing through Cannock Chase before culminating at the historic estate.

Staffordshire County Council became custodians of the estate in 1966, but on November 1 this year returned the management of the estate to the National Trust.

As the Trust wishes to focus on conservation of the estate and parklands, this is the last year to see Shugborough incorporated in the event and a new venue for the run element of the course is now being looked at.

Kevin Stewart, Managing Director of Ironman UK said “We have appreciated the opportunity to launch a new event with Shugborough Estate as a backdrop and we know athletes have enjoyed this quintessentially English setting.  The National Trust has its criteria in managing the sustainability of the Estate and we look forward to establishing a new home for the event in Staffordshire.
