Castle Triathlon Series continues in spectacular location.

castle-series-triathlonLast night (3 July), saw 400 competitors enjoy the beautiful race course of the Hever Castle Triathlon in the glorious sunshine at the second Evening Sprint Triathlon Series event this season.

Sam Wade, from Cardiff University came first in the sprint distance after winning the standard race at Cholmondeley Castle a couple of weeks earlier.  He admits to being taken by the Castle Triathlon Series events and plans to race in the international team at Hever Castle in September. Wade was not alone in the elite status with World Champion Paratriathlete, Matthew Emmerson, from Deal Tri Club, racing the Sprint distance (8th) in what was his first triathlon this season following a stress fracture. Emmerson said: “It is a hard, honest course and incredible venue. I will be back to race the standard in September.”

The Anne Boleyn, Super-Sprint, was won by David Shilland again after he took the first poll position at the last Evening Sprint Triathlon (12 June).

Competitors started out with their race briefing on the magnificent loggia, before stepping in to the warm lake for their 750m or 400m lake swim. After a short grassy uphill run to transition, they made their way out on the cycle course which took them through a series of picturesque Kent villages taking in breath-taking countryside and views. Finally they enjoyed an off road run through the castle grounds and the castle itself.

The response was overwhelming with huge numbers signing up for the flagship Hever Castle Triathlon event in September (28/29). Now the third largest triathlon in the UK the event is likely to reach capacity this year.
