Last year several participants ran and canoed with their dogs, and dogs will be welcomed again this year

Following a successful launch last year with over 60 participants taking part, IWA’s Waterways Triathlon will make a return to Essex in September with the aim of attracting more entrants and to raise more funds for the waterways charity.  The Triathlon will take place on Sunday 25th September 2016 at Hoe Mill Lock near Maldon, on the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation.

The triathlon comprises two routes of either 50km or 30km.  Each route will have entrants canoeing, cycling and running to the finish line.

The entry fees and all sponsorship raised will go towards Essex Waterways, who manage and maintain the Chelmer  & Blackwater Navigation. Essex Waterways plan to use the money raised to carry out  vital tow path restoration work along the canal; keeping the canal accessible for all users, ensuring they can enjoy everything the waterway has to offer.

Last year several participants ran and canoed with their dogs creating quite a fun spectacle.  Dogs will be welcome this year as well.  Discounted places at just £25 are available for early bird registration for participants registering by 2nd May.  After this date entry to the event will be £35 per participant.

As well as triathlon fundraisers, IWA is looking for volunteers to help out on the day.  If you are better at running the refreshments stand than running triathlons we want to hear from you too!  It’s a great way to be part of a really fun day.

Booking is now open for the event – for entry details and further information visit www.waterways.org.uk/triathlon.  To volunteer your time please contact Sarah Frayne.
