As part of the Sandwell Triathlon festival in 2014, organisers Oldbury Swim & Tri Club have announced the inaugural Jodie Stimpson Aquathlon, which will take place on Sunday 3 August.

This rare opportunity to race with one of the world’s top triathletes will come just one week after the Commonwealth Games Triathlon in Glasgow. The event will have two distances one aimed at novices and a longer event designed to test even the most keen athlete.

In the run up to the event Triathlon England, in conjunction with the promoting club Oldbury Swim & Tri Club, will be offering a chance to sample open water swimming and have some expert coaching to make this an experience of the summer

Triathlon England Regional Manager Kirsty Shaw said: “We are very pleased to get Jodie’s blessing for this, she is a local sporting hero and what better way to celebrate her successes on the world stage by racing with her near to her home”

Oldbury Swim & Tri Club’s Mark Deakin said “We have a full programme of events this year including the children’s open water event here but I think this event will draw a big entry not just because of Jodie’s popularity but because this is an event for everyone, Jodie is a real ambassador for the sport and loves to encourage anyone into a sport at which she has excelled at since she was first introduced to it.”
