Don’t be mistaken for thinking triathlon is just for grown ups. There are kids’ events all around the country and they’re growing in popularity. Here are some of the best kids’ triathlons around…

One of the world’s largest and longest running children’s triathlon series, run by the British Triathlon Trust (British Triathlon and Tata Steel), is now in its ninth year and by the end of 2015 more than 70,000 youngsters will have taken part. One former Kid of Steel is Josh Jones, 18, last year’s British age group triathlon champion. There are 10 events held between May and July with a special final race at London’s iconic Olympic venue The London Aquatics Centre and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on July 14. Entries are through schools only so contact your school directly to see if they can get involved. Bikes and helmets are provided and entry is free.

Entry numbers have been doubled to meet demand and there are now four Ironkids events across the UK held the day before each main Ironman event with more than 6,500 places available. There is no swim or bike – children simply run between 500m and 2.5k according to age. With an emphasis on ‘having a go and being part of a world class and iconic event’ there are no finish times but a T-shirt and medal are awarded. Prices range from £2 (Ironkids at IMUK is sponsored by Bolton Council) to £14.84
