Triathlon England – National Aquathlon Championships At West Midlands Water Ski Centre
The BRAT Aquathlon, the fifth of seven events that make up the new look 2013 Triathlon England – National Championships, will be taking place on Saturday 10 August at The West Midlands Water Ski Centre, Tamworth, Staffordshire.
The race will kick off, at 08:00 for Juniors and 08:40 for Seniors, with a 750m swim, taking place in the sheltered purpose built lake, which will be followed by a 5km run, taking in some stunning views of the local wildlife reserve. For spectators the West Midlands Water Ski Centre has a bar with a deck, where all the action can be seen from the swim start, right through to the run’s completion.
Over the past year, interest in the sport has increased dramatically and more women in particular are getting involved and ‘giving it a tri’ for themselves. In 2012, over 700 triathlons, duathlons and aquathlons took place in England, seeing over 125,000 people competing in races and many of them for the first time.
Jem Lawson, Chair of Triathlon England, said: “It’s great news to see how interest in the sport is continuing to grow and we are excited to say that our 2013 Triathlon England – National Triathlon Championships is already proving very popular. With previous events selling-out, it shows these events are growing, and we hope that this in turn will encourage many more to get involved. Our memberships have been increasing steadily and we hope the value we offer will inspire more to get involved.”
Stuart Lawrence, of race organiser 3D Events, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the BRAT Aquathlon again this year and are pleased that the event is proving to be so popular, as it is fully booked once again! The picturesque West Midlands Water Ski Centre is the perfect location for multi-sport events and we’re looking forward to welcoming competitors of all standards from the seasoned professional to the nervous first timer, as well as their dedicated supporters. We are hoping to see a lot of newcomers at the event, as it is perfect for first timer athletes to ‘give it a tri’, whilst the course is also great for the more experienced athlete trying to set a personal best.”
The new Triathlon England Engagement Trailer will also be heading to the event. It provides a state-of-the-art facility for race-goers to talk to experienced members of the national governing body on a range of issues. Triathlon England staff will be on hand all day and are hoping to receive valuable feedback about the membership benefits it provides and to discuss other new initiatives currently happening within the sport.
The 14-foot trailer, which is kitted out with its own PA system and digital media area will be touring around all of the remaining Triathlon England – National Championships.
There are still two other events in the Championships series available to enter whether you fancy taking part in a duathlon or race with your club in the Club Relays, there’s still time to achieve your personal triathlon challenges in 2013.
