The inaugural Challenge Weymouth is already attracting some of the top names in UK triathlon

Challenge Weymouth - Joel JamesonPro triathletes Joel Jameson, Graeme Stewart, Craig Twigg and Stephen Bayliss have all signed up to race on 14 September 2014, the first names on what looks set to be a competitive pro-division.

Joel Jameson, who finished second at this year’s Challenge Henley, has raced in Weymouth before. Jameson said: “‘My first ever triathlon was in Weymouth – and so I am especially excited to return, and to race on some familiar roads. It really is the perfect location for Challenge UK, and I would like to congratulate the team on securing such an incredible destination – everybody is in for a treat”

Craig Twigg, who finished third at the 2013 National Middle Distance Championships, is really looking forward to racing too. He said: “I’m really excited to be racing Challenge Weymouth in 2014. It looks set to be an awesome race in an amazingly cool location! The Challenge events I have raced in the past really seem to put more of an emphasis on the athlete experience, which coupled with the Weymouth location, the course and Alan with his crew from Just Racing (UK) looks set to create a fantastic race!”

Alan Rose, Race Director of Challenge Weymouth, said: “We are so happy to have such an impressive number of pros signed up already. The calibre of the athletes is high too – Graeme Stewart, for example, has the 6th fastest British iron distance time in history, and Scottish record, after finishing Challenge Barcelona in 8 hours 16 earlier this year. Jameson is a familiar figure on the Challenge Henley podium, having finished 2nd and 3rd in successive years, as is Bayliss who won the event in 2012 and finished 2nd this year. It is going to be a competitive race, and we look forward to seeing who else signs up!”
