The date of the 2011 London Duathlon has been announced, along with a link up between the the race organisers and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mass Participation Events have confirmed that next year’s event will take place on 11 September, and the 2011 race will remain the world’s biggest duathlon. Since its launch in 2005, the event in Richmond Park has regularly attracted over 3,000 competitors. The organisers are hoping that the link up with Macmillan Cancer Support will open up the event to an even broader audience and also raise valuable funds for the charity.
“We are delighted to be working with Macmillan Cancer Support and the partnership is further evidence that duathlon has come of age,” said Kevin Stewart of Mass Participation Events.
“In previous years some athletes considered duathlon, as a run bike run combination, as an easy option when compared to its Olympic counterpart triathlon. But that changed following the World Duathlon Championships in Edinburgh, with Catriona Morrison again crowned World Champion, and the success of the Ultra distance at the London Duathlon, where talk on the finish line was of dedicated training through the year and making it their A race for the season.”
