The Woburn Abbey Triathlon takes place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September, and as one of the biggest sporting events in the Bedfordshire area, many local businesses choose to get involved.

DNA Luxury Travel, based in Woburn, are returning to the event for a second year after their success in 2017. Keen triathletes and fitness fans, as individuals they are no stranger to completing weekend sporting challenges. However, working together as a team was a new opportunity, and supporting their local triathlon and competing in their hometown that bit more special.

“Last year we competed in the WoBurner Relay, and raised over £1000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Melanoma Focus,” says Oliver Stokes, Associate Director. “It was the perfect event to bring us together as a team, encourage us to keep fit and raise money for some great causes.”

The Woburn Abbey Triathlon is organised by registered charity tri for life and event delivery partner Human Race events. Since its inception, the race weekend has raised over £2.4m, enabling a whole host of incredible projects to be completed by its charity partners.

“The work that both GOSH and Melanoma Focus do has such a positive impact on people’s lives, and we were delighted to be able to do our bit in helping to support them. We’re hoping to beat last year’s fundraising total this year!” says Oliver.

Over two thousand triathletes will be descending on the stunning venue of Woburn Abbey in September to complete distances ranging from SuperSprint all the way up to the 220 Triathlon WoBurner middle distance triathlon. With Junior Triathlons and the sold-out Scootathlon, the weekend promises an array of family fun and sporting challenge.

“Being able to compete together in Woburn is a great way to bring us together as colleagues in the hometown of our business, as well as a great opportunity to support a fantastic local event,” says Oliver. “Our training is going pretty well so far – our swimmer was fastest female last year! It should be a fantastic day and we’re all looking forward to racing together at such a stunning venue.”

Another team from Motive Components, a leading supplier of engine parts based in Milton Keynes, are tackling the Olympic Relay at Woburn Abbey Triathlon as their first company sporting event.

“As a company we were inspired to get involved with the Woburn Abbey Triathlon after seeing teams from other businesses in our area raising incredible amounts of money for the charities involved. Seeing their great work, we wanted to get involved and give back what we can as well,” says Stuart Cottle, Marketing Manager.

The company decided to help support the wider community through their sporting efforts, and hope to inspire other companies, friends and family to get involved too. They are fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Melanoma Focus, with a sponsorship target of £2000.

“Being a company that has a diverse range of customers in the UK and overseas, we hope that we can spread the message far and wide, and make a real impact,” says Stuart. “Great Ormond Street Hospital in particular has strong connections with some of our staff and customers having family members that have been treated there, and we are hoping to exceed our fundraising target.”

Motive Components are pitting themselves against fellow local automotive company MGOC Spares in a friendly, but competitive rivalry.

“We are 100% committed to winning! We’re expecting it to be a close race, as they have a strong cyclist on their team, but we should gain back time on the run so we’re aiming to win on sheer determination!” adds Stuart.
