Helly Hansen 2 in 1 jacket tested, rated and reviewed
Triathlon challenges the wardrobe like no other activity. The Helly Hansen Windfoil 2 in 1 jacket/gilet usefully blocks the breezes encountered while training outdoors, and while not technically waterproof, it also deflects light rain.
Zip-off arms (plus neck popper) turn this lightweight cover-all jacket, with mild drop tail, into a sleeveless vest for warmer or faster paced sessions where only wind protection to the core is required.
The Windfoil makes use of perforated zones in the back and under the main zip flap to encourage drying air in, without defeating the objective of deflecting breezes. Our tester had to size up from small to medium to overcome a tight lower hem, only to encounter over-length sleeves and a back panel cut that was both tight and baggy simultaneously.
It’s not cheap, but if the close-waisted fit suits your shape, it works well.
Pros: Versatile and deflects water
Cons: Not the cheapest piece of gear
