On’s newest running shoes replace the rounded cloud lugs of the rest of the range – which have teeth to grip together on impact – with broader, squarer foam models.

This translates into a slightly firmer ride than the Cloudrunner and Cloudsurfer, but with more flexibility than both, giving a powerful springy toe-off.

The Clouds still have great impact protection though, especially for shoes that feel even lighter on the road than their paltry 236g (UK 9.5). The 6mm heel-toe drop means there’s no chunky heel to get in the way and the shoes’ lightness promotes a fast, efficient turnover at any speed.

Despite being fairly narrow, we also found the Clouds to be very stable, even with their neutral footbed.

The upper is airy enough and the heel cup is supportive, though you might want to ditch the standard elastic laces to gain more security.
