Skechers’ foray into off-road running features a flexible one-piece sole dotted with grippy rectangular lugs that are low profile enough not to be irksome while running on hard surfaces.
Like the rest of the company’s ‘GO’ range, the GObionics are designed to promote a midfoot strike and they certainly feel flexy and natural off-road, especially compared to the often overly rigid, heavy soles of traditional trail shoes. This flexibility means close ground feel, which can be good and bad depending on the roughness of the terrain.
The excellent traction of the GObionics is somewhat undermined by the comfortable, but stretchy upper, which can lead to a loss of stability around the ankle when the going gets rough.
There’s no weatherproofing on the upper either, which is problematic in wet, muddy conditions. Most of the time though, they offer a light, springy and accessible option for getting off the road with loads of grip and comfort.
Pros: Excellent traction
Cons: No water proofing
