It’s pricey, but we were reassured to find the Spherewind performs really well. It’s well cut round the body with a long back that kept us warm. It has shaped arms for freedom of movement, though our tester found the sleeves long and a bit roomy.

What struck us was the excellent temperature regulation. It’s mostly windproof, but a panel of stretchy, wicking, soft material on the back – called the 3D BionicSphere System – allows a thin layer of moisture to stay on the skin for cooling, while its wave pattern gives insulation. We liked the high-vis colour and reflectives, too.

A high-quality technical run jacket, great for the UK’s winter weather if you can afford it.
