Following the sad news that Xterra England was cancelled this morning, we’ve put together a list of other road triathlons taking place across the UK this year.
Durty Events are running a variety of off-road triathlons all across Scotland. You’ll probably have heard of the notoriously hardcore Celtman! (3.8k swim / 202k bike / 42k trail run including two big mountains) but they’ve also got the super-fast Foxlake triathlon which competitors should aim to complete in 10-15 minutes. Aviemore triathlon makes good use of its beautiful setting in the Cairngorms National Park and the excellent MTB trails there (if you’re worried, there are good rail links from London too!) and there’s also their original “most fun-est and best” Durty triathlon in the Scottish Borders. durtyevents.com
High Terrain Events also have a number of off-road races but none of them sadly feature the complete swim, mountain bike, trail run complement. There are excellent looking off-road duathlons though at Grizedale, Kielder and Whinlatter and the Buttermere Triathlon features a gorgeous looking trail run. highterrainevents.co.uk
Check out Go Lakes for a pretty comprehensive listing of all races taking place in the Lake District this year. Since this is the ‘adventure capital’ of England a lot of it is off-road and if it isn’t, those roads are going to wind through some pretty spectacular mountain scenery.
If you’re hooked on Xterra though, consider a trip to the Emerald Isle for Xterra Ireland. The country’s inaugural race is a qualifying event for the World Championships.
Have we missed anything? We’re bound to have! If there’s an amazing off-road event you’re going to that we haven’t mentioned, let us know in the comments.
